... to the Savannah College of Art & Design. Wow that was a culture shock
for
me, but my college days were amazing. I made life long friends, had great
experiences and even got two degrees! A BFA in Graphic Design and a MFA in
Illustration.
I've always been pretty good at school
so college was an
incredible
adventure that I was able to enjoy.
I still miss Savannah sometimes. The cobblestone streets, the spanish moss
on
the oak trees, the goths, the art students and the occasional tourist that you
avoided motoring down. Ah, good times. It was in Savannah that I met Tray,
who later became my husband. With the second degree in hand and my
parents looking for a reprieve from college tuition, I ventured to Canada for
work and Tray followed! We are two warm-climate people who came north.
Yes we are certifiably crazy. Ontario winter snow drifts are impressive!
But I digress—and I do it often, and well—it was here in Canada that I
did that whole 'settling down' part. I got married in true Scottish fashion:
bagpipes, kilts and all! Two years ago, another young man came into my
life, but I believe that my husband won't mind him staying. Aiden was
born in the spring of 2007 and has brought much joy to our lives. We
have a resident matronly housecat named Sienna who has grudgingly
allowed Aiden to remain.
It probably goes without saying that I love to design and draw.
You'll see
some of that in the portfolio section. I also love to make
quilts for the dear
people in my life. Something about hand stitching
them
is magical to me and
soothes me with peace. Since coming to
Canada,
I've also taken up knitting. Do NOT knock the
knitting!
It's an awesome
hobby/obsession and I shall smite you with holy fire if
you
besmirch its
good name! Remember that I live in Canada and
knitted
items are
generally well favoured in winter.
And now back to your regularly scheduled program.
Please put your tray
tables up, secure all items and enjoy the ride.
About Myself and Other Such Twaddle
This is where I tell you some kind of interesting story. So pull
up a chair and gather 'round. I was born and raised in Nassau,
Bahamas. And to answer your questions up front, yes we all do
in
fact drink Bahama Mama's, wear grass skirts and spend our
days
contemplating life on the beach. Of course we do! Being a
redhead
with pale skin you can imagine what fear the beach actually held
for me! All the same, I had a good childhood and when the time
came, I sallied forth to my college of choice...
